Every time I think about how this book was published a few years ago, I can't help but feel sad I didn't know about it until NOW.
There’s a lot of talk about the toxicity of the main couple, but I think their flaws, the things that make them imperfect, are actually the most important aspect of the book. Loving someone despite their many flaws, loving someone even when traumas keeps chasing them. Yes, they both need a lot of therapy, but the way they are there for each other, despite being toxic, is also the only way they know how to BE. As JB says about being the wolf and Magnolia being the moon to which he howls it's name since he was a child.

The only thing I’ll say is that the ending of this book doesn’t prepare us for what we’ll discover about JB in the second book, so much pain:/

Toda vez que penso que este livro foi publicado há alguns anos, não posso deixar de me sentir triste por não ter descobrido antes...
Há muita discussão sobre a toxicidade do casal principal, mas acho que suas falhas, as coisas que os tornam imperfeitos, são na verdade o aspecto mais importante do livro. Amar alguém apesar de suas muitas falhas, amar alguém mesmo quando traumas continuam a persegui-los... e sim, ambos precisam de muita terapia, mas a forma como estão lá um para o outro, apesar de serem tóxicos, é também a única maneira que eles sabem SER. Como JB diz sobre ser o lobo e Magnolia ser a lua à qual ele uiva o nome desde que era criança.

A única coisa que vou dizer é que o final deste livro não nos prepara para o que vamos descobrir sobre JB no segundo livro, é tanta dor :/

This book is so incredibly slow that I couldn't finish it. An event that would typically take 1-2 chapters for any other author drags on for nearly the entire book. It's simply the book I desliked the most in 2024, and the only one I haven't been able to finish in years. I usually finish books, even the ones I don't like, but with this one it was a impossible job.

 

Este livro é tão, mas tão devagar que eu não consegui terminar. Um evento que para qualquer autor duraria de 1 a 2 capítulos se estende por quase o livro inteiro. É simplesmente o livro que mais odiei em 2024 e o único que não consegui terminar em anos. Geralmente, eu termino livros, até mesmo os que não gosto para ter uma opinião mais completa, mas com este foi impossível terminar

The only reason I'm giving it 4.75 stars is because I haven't read the other books yet, but I'm totally hooked on the series. The amount of romance, mystery, and challenges to be resolved throughout the narrative, along with the development of relationships with other characters, is perfect. The plot keeps us on the edge of our seats, it's flawless and completely engaging.

It's a very well-written and well-crafted book, with the depth needed to advance the mysteries of the plot line.

I really enjoyed it, and so far, as of August 2024, it's the best book I've read this year.

 

A única razão pela qual estou dando 4,75 estrelas é porque ainda não li os outros livros, mas estou totalmente envolvida na série. A quantidade de romance, mistério e desafios a serem resolvidos ao longo da narrativa, juntamente com o desenvolvimento dos relacionamentos com os outros personagens, é perfeita. 

É um livro muito bem escrito, elaborado e com a profundidade necessária para avançar nos mistérios da história.

Gostei muito, e até agora, em agosto de 2024, é o melhor livro que li este ano.

I read Powerless without much concern for the order of the books, but rather because the plot line of the characters—childhood best friends to lovers—is my favorite trope. I loved the fact that, despite the age gap, the male character's actions were reassuring while the female main character was a teenager and he was an adult. I also appreciate that 99% of their relationship is not toxic, and is based on such a beautiful friendship that their main concern is doing everything they can to make the other feel good and be happy. I love it when good friendships turn into great loves; for me, they are the best couples in books and in real life.

The narrative is fast-paced, although in some chapters, when they are mutually discovering their feelings for each other, closer to the climax of the book, the pace slows down a bit.

Even so, it's an excellent book—the hot scenes are perfect and reflect how the male character treats the main character. It's also a bit surprising how the male character uses dirty language at just the right moments...

 

Li Powerless sem muita preocupação com a ordem dos livros, mas sim porque a trama dos personagens, melhores amigos de infância que se tornam amantes, é a minha favorita. Amei o fato de que, apesar da diferença de idade, as atitudes do personagem masculino foram tranquilizadoras enquanto a personagem feminina principal ainda era uma adolescente e ele, um adulto. 
Também gosto da ideia de que 99% do relacionamento deles não é tóxico e é baseado em uma amizade tão linda que a maior preocupação dos dois é fazer de tudo para que o outro se sinta bem e feliz. Amo quando boas amizades se transformam em grandes amores.

A narrativa é acelerada, embora em alguns capítulos, quando eles estão mutuamente descobrindo seus sentimentos um pelo outro, mais perto do clímax do livro, o ritmo diminua um pouco.

Ainda assim, é um excelente livro—as cenas hot são perfeitas e refletem como o personagem masculino trata a personagem principal. Também é um pouco surpreendente como o personagem masculino usa uma linguagem suja nos momentos certos...

This book pulled me out of a reading slump. I was coming off a saga that emotionally drained me, and I read Heartless and Powerless one after the other, without much regard for the author's publication order. Even so, the reading experience was delightful and quick—I finished it in less than a day.

Cade evolves a lot in the book, and Willa is literally a whirlwind. However, it’s easy to understand where their personal insecurities come from and how they affect their relationship. It’s also beautiful that Willa doesn’t take on the role of the wicked stepmother; instead, Luke ends up being what unites them.

I’m not sure if, in Willa’s position, I would have made the same choices, but it does make me think that we deserve to give ourselves a second chance at love, even after disappointments and having passed the age that society considers ideal for dating.

It’s a quick, light, enjoyable read, and the spicy scenes are perfect and fit the characters’ personalities. I loved it!

 

Este livro me tirou de uma ressaca literária. Eu estava vindo de uma saga que me drenou emocionalmente, e li Heartless e Powerless um seguido do outro, sem me preocupar muito com a ordem de publicação da autora. Mesmo assim, a leitura foi deliciosa e rápida, terminei em menos de um dia.

Cade evolui muito no livro, e Willa é literalmente um furacão. No entanto, é fácil entender de onde vêm as inseguranças pessoais de ambos e como isso interfere no relacionamento dos dois. É lindo também que Willa não assume o papel da madrasta má, Luke acaba sendo o que os une.

Não sei se, na posição de Willa, eu teria tomado as mesmas decisões, não sei se teria a mesma coragem, mas isso me faz pensar que merecemos nos dar uma segunda chance no amor, mesmo depois de decepções e de ter passado da idade que a sociedade considera ideal para namorar.

A leitura é rápida, leve, gostosa, e as cenas picantes são perfeitas e se encaixam na personalidade

This book, unlike Binding 13, is more fast-paced until about 80%, and considering it has 955 pages, this is a relief. However, I didn’t feel like the next book should focus on Joey; it seemed more like it was time for Gibsie’s story, especially around the 90% mark. But it’s okay.

I mentioned this in my review of Binding 13, and in this book, I fell even more in love with Gibsie, especially since Johnny’s feelings were already pretty much sorted out by the end of the first book.

Diferentemente de Binding 13, Keeping 13 é mais acelerado até cerca de 80%, e considerando que tem 955 páginas, isso é um alívio. No entanto, não senti que o próximo livro deveria focar em Joey; parecia ser mais adequado ser a hora da história de Gibsie, especialmente por volta dos 90%. Mas tudo bem, pode ser que Saving 6 e Redeeming 6 mudem minha opinião.

Eu mencionei isso na minha resenha de Binding 13, e neste livro, me apaixonei ainda mais por Gibsie, especialmente porque os sentimentos de Johnny já estavam praticamente resolvidos no final do primeiro livro.

Oh boy, I fell in love with the boys from Tommen. But by the end of Binding 13, I found myself falling for Gibsie instead. I know Johnny is the main character, but Gibsie really won me over.

The book is slow at times, with a lot of dialogue and different points of view in the same scenes, which can make it a bit boring. However, even though English isn't my first language, it felt like a quick read. I only started to feel tired around 80% of the way through, but the pace picks up again around 90%, so it ended on a good note! 

 

Meu Deus, me apaixonei pelos garotos de Tommen. Mas, ao final de Binding 13, me vi apaixonada pelo Gibsie. Sei que Johnny é o personagem principal, mas Gibsie realmente me conquistou.

O livro é lento às vezes, com muito diálogo e diferentes pontos de vista nas mesmas cenas (que considerei um pouco desnecessário) o que pode torná-lo um pouco entediante. Entretanto, mesmo que o inglês não seja minha língua materna, a leitura foi rápida. Só comecei a me sentir cansada por volta dos 80% do livro, mas o ritmo aumenta novamente por volta dos 90%, então terminou bem!
