this is a masterpiece like all of Hollys other creations! i lived for the Jurdan bits 🫶🏻 Oak is such a complex character, i loved seeing all the different sides of him in each piece of The Folk of the Air universe. Wren and Oaks relationship had so much angst in this book. I loved seeing him literally grovel. Another Greenbriar slay. and… i’m ashamed to say…. i liked the hoofs😔
I’m losing my fricking mind. I have no words for this yet, i’m literally still shaking over that ending…. you’re telling me I have to wait a whole year for the next book… I knew some shit was gonna happen and Mrs Yarros directed my attention elsewhere. I will not forgive her for this. Xaden has moved up my book bfs list! while Violet has seemed even whinier than usual. •_• But overall another slay by Mrs Yarros! 🫶🏻
oh and! my second audiobook ever and it took me sooo long to get into… picture me trying not to cringe everytime Xaden does sexy talk and Tairn growls….
Another wonderful example of the book being better than the show! I just love Claire and Jamie<3 Their love transcends time and space and damn it if i don’t want it! It’s so popular for a reason, Diana Gabaldon knows what she’s doing! 😭🫶🏻
Also, this was my first audiobook and I was thoroughly impressed. Davina Porter has a wondrous way of engaging you right from the start!
From the moment i saw Alex Aster post on Booktok for the first time about this book, i’ve been intrigued. I heard a lot of mixed reviews about Lightlark so i was afraid this would fall short for me, but it absolutely did not.
I had to wait a long while for my local library to have this available and boy was it worth the wait! I worried about halfway through that it would be predictable but i never in a million years could have guessed the plot twist! The writing was beautiful and had me on the edge of my seat, every revelation was so thought out, and Isla’s personal arc was everything i could have hoped for.
When i finished Lightlark, i had to put the book down and just take it all in! I am reeling, while waiting for Nightbane to become available. One of my best reads of the year so far!
“He is a demon, and he has done monstrous things, but he makes her feel whole. Perhaps that, more than anything, is what got them here—a boy who loves too little and a girl who loves too much.”
Liska is just a normal village girl, who happens to have magic. Magic has ruined her life and in desperation makes a deal with a demon to rid herself of it. She must serve the Leszy for a year within the Driada (a magical forest filled with demons). During her time she is faced with mystery after mystery, unable to piece them together. She feels as though everyone is keeping secrets from her, but Liska has a few secrets of her own…
At the beginning I was worried. It sounded like every other book, but boy was I wrong. I was invested at every turn and there were many. Everything was simply perfection. The twists, the heartbreak, the emotion, the revelations. I was completely taken by surprise at the ending. I was filled with so much hope, then it was ripped away from me. Of course, everything ended as it should have. It felt like everyone was where they were meant to be, even if I didn’t like how we got there. THEN you had to rip my heart out again! I’m left with more questions than I started with, but am content to let them linger. I have been left irrevocably broken.
I cannot put into words how truly beautiful this book was! A.B. Poranek is a wondrous, evil genius.
