My first ever fairyloot ya box book and it honestly was not a good as a book I originally hoped based on the cover and the synopsis. Main thoughts:

- I felt like there were plotholes in this, because the plot went absolutely everywhere and nowhere at the same time. Spend way too many words on a romance that just. sucked.

- This book had too many of “my main character girl is not like other girls” moments, which is not necessarily /bad/ but it did make me cringe a little.

- Speaking of tropes- the insta-love trope happened not once, but twice! And both times it fell incredibly flat because there was not a single ounce of chemistry to be found.

- The main character was too trusting with the people she met, besides being supposedly smart and trained in a court setting. She dived deep down into danger with every chance she got, but for no good reason since she still had no idea how to solve the problem of this book while delving into said danger, so it was just plain stupid?

- The amount of times Ying used her privilege, but “clarified”: “normally she wouldn’t” drove me a little crazy because then don’t do that??? There are other ways, you know?

- It gave me an ick to see how many people supported Ying & Zhang even though I felt like we never saw them interact with any commoners??


GOOD THINGS:
- love the concept
- the idea of a mirror world is very interesting
- pretty cover
- the writing is very easy to understand
