Features a non-binary protagonist but they are unlovable most of the time. I enjoyed reading their journey with gender identity but they were an overall asshole. The author confesses this though. The plot is very sad, from the death and self harm, but the main character annoyed me. It was great to see gay, trans, and non-binary characters represented.

Each book can be read independent of each other and does challenge the way we see our world.

The sex scene at the end was completely unnecessary regardless of what year it was written. The transitions between the past and present are well done.
