Maybe I’m just dumb but I didn’t get this at all. It was such a slog to read and felt like there was no real story to follow. I’m so gutted because I loved Jawbone so much and was expecting to love Nefando too but sadly not.

Morbid Obsessions by Frankie Miren, Alison Rumfitt
4.0
This was such an interesting and important conversation to read. I have seen some people criticise Tell Me I’m Worthless for feeding into TERF ideology and I urge those people to give this book a read to get a better insight into Alison Rumfitt’s thinking and intention behind her novel. Natalia Santana Mendes’ interview at the end was also incredibly moving and powerful.
Great Granny Webster by Caroline Blackwood

I just LOVE character studies on strange people and Great Granny Webster fits this bill perfectly.
The story follows the lives of three different family members in the young narrator’s life and explores their quirks, habits, flaws, and struggles. Despite it only being around 100 pages it still managed to absolutely suck me into the character’s lives.
The very last sentence was also genius.

Home Before Dark by Riley Sager
4.0
This is definitely one of my new favourite horror thrillers that I’ve read to date.
I had previously only read Survive The Night by Riley Sager which I really enjoyed but I knew most peoples favourite seemed to be Home Before Dark and I’m so glad I finally got around to reading it because I had such a fun time. Considering it’s just under 400 pages, I absolutely flew through it because Riley Sager’s prose is so easy but engaging to read.
If you’re looking for a horror/thriller that has you really invested in the characters and plot, and not just full of shock value, then I think you’ll love this one.
At about 3/4 the way through, I was enjoying it but wasn’t astounded, but the last quarter was so tense and genuinely creepy and action packed.
SPOILER:
The only single issue I had with the story was a plot hole where the main character stumbled upon a dessert on her kitchen table and ate it. Why on earth would you eat food that suddenly appeared on your table? When you live alone? Would you not be thinking wtf is that? And how did it get there?

You Will Never Be Forgotten: Stories by Mary South

I enjoyed this collection but the stories were definitely hit and miss. My favourites were the first two stories ‘Keith prime’ and ‘the age of love’, and the last story ‘not setsuko’.
