I will admit, I didn't love Xs and Ohs, but I could absolutely NOT put down this book. There was so much that I fell in love with, from the Whaler Inn, to Nana, to the development of Mel and Evan's relationship. Honestly, the most disappointing part is realizing that I am not going to get a book about either Lucy or Kyle since this was the end of the series. The banter was top notch, the development of Mel and Evan's relationship, the stakes, and Mel's relationship with herself and her brother held my attention from the first to last page, and I couldn't be more happy that I was able to read this.
Lately, there has been a trend of the books that I have been reading. So far, almost all of the books I have read in the last month or so have included a main character greatly struggles with the abandonment or loss of a parent - The Catch, Just for the Summer, many of Elsie Silvers books, all include main characters who struggle with abandonment and what that means for their future. And while it has been really tough to read, they have been some of the most moving books that I have read, so I am greatly appreciative of the difficulty. And even though a fisherman isn't technically a cowboy, its the same vibe in my book, so this doesn't totally violate cowboy summer.
