It's one of those books that are difficult to give a star rating because there's too much going on. 

Beautiful prose and masterful manipulation of time/pacing. I loved the magical realism component.

a beautifully written and deeply immersive depiction of a strong, complex female friendship. lila was such a vivid and unforgettable character.
