Definitely macabre, but the biography jumps forward too much to really pull you in, and Dr. Black is not interesting, just clearly mentally unwell and abusive. The sketches at the back are the only part that drew me in, and I was really not expecting to read about animal experimentation and abuse so thoroughly. Be prepared. Also not a fan of how difficult it was to tell if this was real, embellished, or entirely fictional.
The writing was really subpar, the particular kinks were not for me, and I have zero (sometimes negative) interest in Disney characters. Honestly, it felt like reading Wattpad fic—the names weren't even changed.
I've never read The Wheel of Time series, so I can't speak to the accuracy of this adaptation. However, I'm enjoying the (very cliche) storyline enough in its condensed form to continue reading.Â
Technically DNF'd at 70%, but I did skim the ending. I just couldn't do it anymore. I didn't like or connect with any of the characters, the plot was arguably the most boring thing I've ever read, and Delilah made me so uncomfortable I finally gave up. (view spoiler) I know the male characters were meant to be unbearable, which they were, but that just made it a) not fun to read whenever they were involved and b) disappointing when (view spoiler).
Basically, I wouldn't have gotten half as far into this book if it wasn't wlw, and even then I couldn't do it, which is a bummer because I'd heard excellent things about it.
Note: this was my first ever RomCom, and I'm thinking maybe that genre just isn't for me.Â
Quick, enjoyable read. Loved the atmosphere and characters, but the plot felt a little railroaded, especially with the parents. Also, nothing super wild that caught my attention happens, but it wasn't boring either. Somewhere between the two.
It has such a unique and fun sense of humor while addressing important underlying themes of greed, mortality, and friendship. Definitely a new favorite.
Big yikes. Basically a giant rape scene. Not sure why I finished it other than a morbid curiosity and a dying hope that it would somehow get better. Spoilers: it did not.
