Yes, I know. I know the book cover is ugly. It gives the impression that it’s a trashy novel and not worth a reader’s time. I didn’t have expectations other than a fast and short read for the weekend that would entertain me. But man, was this engaging. This book got me invested. Despite what it lacked, I got attracted to the protagonists’ backstory, the flow of the story, and the dialogue.

I got hooked on the story. The writing style was engaging. Although, I didn’t expect the author to pile on the painful and traumatizing backstories of the protagonists, especially on Vienna, which was perhaps what kept me to continue reading the book. That despite all the pain they experienced, they still came out strong and determined to become the best versions of themselves. However, it would have been nice if the author gave a warning on some content about their backstories because it was unexpected and might be triggering for some. The antagonists and their antics might have been tiring to read, but I had fun with them as I anticipated the resolution since each has different tactics and goals in breaking up the couple.

Perhaps what made me give this a 4-star rating is, despite the weaknesses of this book, like Dane being your typical rich, powerful, and possessive alpha, his protectiveness, thoughtfulness, and how much he cared for Vienna were very endearing and cute to me. It’s the small moments, I tell you! They were just adorable together, and I loved the exchange of dialogues between them. I liked the flow of the story and the pace of the development of the relationship between the protagonists. There was never a dull moment in the book.

I might forget why I gave this a 4-star rating when I reread it in the future, but what matters is the present, right? Which is that I was thoroughly entertained and charmed by this book.
