it’s very similar to the catcher in the rye to me, a preview to a breakdown, but in the bell jars case we see the crash and burn and then the aftermath. although i did enjoy my time reading it, there were definitely scenes where all i could say was “what the fuck” simply because of unnecessary amount of racism. like why are the only latino and black man villains? I do like emotionally complex books with unlikable main characters, which the bell jar is definitely one of them. However, the book is entrenched with white feminism.

I really appreciated how accessible this book was to the average person, and how it didnt have any complicated jargon. I appreciated the inclusion of imperialism and feminism in it also. My one critic is that I wish it included works from non Europeans.
