The Locked Door by Freida McFadden

This will prob be my last Freida book, I’ve read 7 or 8 and at this point her writing is too repetitive, predictable, and simple to enjoy for me personally. This book was better than some of her others, it just doesn’t do it for me. I did guess the twist on page 125… I feel bad saying it but her writing feels lazy/: the way she writes dialogue both inner and between characters gives minimal effort. I’m sorry Freida

Soft 3.5/5 stars for now

I found myself absolutely loving the first half of the book, I tore through that portion in one sitting. After that, the pacing and story seemed super disjointed. Still an overall fun read with a cozy fall/winter feel.

Meh. Took me a really long time to get into the main relationship bc of a trope I really don’t like reading, never felt too attached to what was going on and I wanted Fern to get the fuck up sometimes. Anyway!

Loved this book start to finish. So raw and beautiful, originally listened to the audiobook but decided to buy the hardcover halfway through so I can reread it eventually. Definitely recommend for anyone who loves Normal People. I can see my rating getting a bit higher as time goes on, but for now it feels right hehe.

This was my not my first attempt at enjoying contemporary romance but it was the first time I was successful! Read for book club, outside of my typical selection vibe but I really enjoyed it. Just a fun, light hearted read and perfect for the summer. I’ve also been watching way too much too hot to handle so it was a nice transition into dumb hot people on an island

Revisiting reviews in September 2024, moving this up to 4 stars. It was memorable enough to outweigh any cringe

My first 5 star of the year!! I listened to the audiobook and it was SO good. I highly highly recommend listening vs reading for this book specifically, it’s more of a production really. It’s like if a podcast, Netflix true crime doc, and thriller book had a baby. Love love loved.
