Really beautifully illustrated collection of creation myths. I really enjoyed the surreal dreamlike quality of these stories, how they flowed and linked together with its stunning page compositions, and delicately textured graphite artwork.

This comic was quite the experience, darkly humorous, very surreal, and definitely a bit unsettling. I think it may require a reread to try and fully make sense of everything that happened. The artwork was very energetic and textured, with lots of full of fun character designs and atmospheric environments.

The Many Myths of Second Spine, by Sajan Rai

A darkly funny, and twisted tale full of fun and wacky characters. This was an enjoyable little mystery story, not every bit of humour landed for me, but there were some very funny visual gags and witty dialogue, and it kept me intrigued and engaged from start to finish.

The grim and sometimes quite violent and disturbing events illustrated in a bright, colourful art style is a fun juxtaposition, and it was great reading about all the unusual and innovative different rumours of who the Second Spine could truly be!

This comic had a very unique and evocative art style, the dark textured environments ground the story in a strong sense of place, in contrast with the fine white lines of the characters and creatures, that feels almost like seeing ghostly echoes of past events. This was a mysterious, intriguing, and very atmospheric read, definitely leaving me with many questions to ponder about what happened, I’d definitely like to reread at some point to see if I can try to uncover and interpret more about the story being told.

Really gorgeous and striking art style, that creates an incredibly palpable atmosphere. Dahm’s characterisation work is also superb here, Jesus in particular is imbued with so much emotional complexity through deft panel framing, and subtle body language and facial expression details.

Really fun character focused adventure story, very engaging and imaginative plot and world building, and brimming with heart. Also Choo’s art is fantastic, with really expressive and charming characters and atmospheric environments. Very much recommend.
