similar feeling of not knowing what the hell is going on for like 80% of the book and getting to the end with a lot to be explained but god…. GOD… it was so good. Once things started to get explained it felt like the entire book tilted into a completely new perspective. GOD !!!!!!!!!

a story that aches with love. i could only ever hope and pray to write something as wonderful and impactful as this. i think if i was less emotionally impacted by this book i could say more but alas. just wonderful

a sweet book, but not much more than that! a book i would have loved when i was 13/14, but unfortunately i think now it just falls a little flat. the romance lacked the spark i wanted and felt a little insubstantial, but the characters are distinct and relatively interesting!

it was fine! i read it almost in one sitting, i found it a little predictable and very modern, perhaps a little young for me! but not totally unenjoyable

not the worst book i have ever read but it was a bit predictable and lacked any real substantial or interesting emotional narrative. the age difference between calico and josh was deeply uncomfortable, especially considering how often it is acknowledged within the book that josh is underage. the whole waiting until the day hes 18 felt quite gross. even without the age difference, their romance felt very flat and uninteresting, with no real development. the misogyny was also just a little boring. the action had no real tension, and i spent a lot of this book waiting for it to be over.

i wish i had coherent thoughts about this book. i just know it’s going to live with me forever. i had listened to Japanese Breakfast a fair amount without any external context, so revisiting and looking at Psychopomp’s cover after this book immediately made me burst into tears.

weird book, genuinely turned my stomach a lot. from a pure technical writing standpoint, it’s so good and captivating and the only reason i kept reading (and the only reason it’s getting a 2 star rating). i simply can’t get past the amount of incest/almost incest there is… sexually troubling book i think. the race aspect of this book is also Not Good and i dare say racist. glad its over and i don’t have to read it anymore…

i feel really complexly about this book. i don’t know if i like any of the characters in it, and there’s elements i didn’t enjoy about this book, but i found myself so unexpectedly moved by the end. all of a sudden all the emotions throughout the book came to a head. kind of obsessed with it actually.
