I have heard many things about this book, both good and bad. One thing has been consistent, most people seem to agree that its not his best work.
I do see the flaws in the book. There is not a lot, ok none , character development.
There is an intriguing mystery but at the end of the book you are left with a feeling of some secrets still remaining. I could go on, but I will not because I loved Elantris. I did not get bored even during the more political elements which typically I dislike. I found all plots intriguing and was sad to see the story end so quickly.

This was  fantastic. I have a feeling it will stay with me for a long time.
The progression in Robin of how he got to where he ended was beautifully written.  What really made this such a hard hitting book was that we got to understand most all sides and perspectives so the whole story did not seem as one sided as I feared.

The magic system was fascinating and incredibly unique. I found the very technical explanations to both allow me to understand how it works as well as put me in the headspace of someone at college.

The annotations filled in some gaps that would have been there otherwise and allowed this book to be a reasonable length.

However, I would not recommend this book to everyone. In fact I have already told some of my friends not to read it due to the subject matter as well as the ending.
From a point, the story goes in a very dark direction and pulls you into the maddens that ensues.

Not a lot to say to be honest. I went into this book expecting something light and funny.
It delivered on the first but not on the second.
I truly do not understand why there has been so much hype as it seems to be a very standard romance . I did not find any of the characters memorable in fact that can be said for the whole book.

The first two books had me hooked. The last chapter of the second book forced me to pick up this book strait away. However I was very disappointed.  The story feels so dragged out. I think this whole series could have been easily done in 3 book. 75% seems like filler.

I still very much like Popy and how her character has progressed. How she has been able to deal with trauma and the rug being pulled from under her on multiple occasions is well done.
Cas however is another story. It seems like decades of torture and incarceration has not made any real impression on him. Even his relationship with Popy is a bit annoying as there is no tension anymore.

Overall, I still think that the plot is interesting, and I will continue the series but I need to take a brake for a while.
