By the River Piedra I Sat Down and Wept: A Novel of Forgiveness by Paulo Coelho

Would have been 5 stars if I wasn't so pissed with the religious undertones of the book (coming from a really religious person). I usually overlook religious undertones in a book, especially if the beliefs differed from mine, but it was just so hard to ignore because it was so rampant in the book.

Alright, the prose is beautiful. And that's just it. Maybe I didn't really understand this, but it had a good aim and completely missed the mark.

I'd be lying if I said that I enjoyed this book. I can’t believe it took me 5 months to finish this book? I can't say I disliked it though, because looking back, this book had a lasting impression on me. I relate to Selin so much with her infatuation, and I have so many annotations with some of her thoughts kn academia and so.

Wow. I actually read it up until the rape scenes in which I just read the summaries on LitCharts afterwards. Allegorical dystopia might be my new favorite genre.
