what a remarkable waste of time. just because a piece of writing is skilled or introspective and old enough to be considered a classic does not mean that its ideas are, or have ever been, of quality. the literature itself even when you discard the substandard ideas lack in anything that make it worthwhile to read. there are some enjoyable lines sprinkled throughout, which is the only reason I'd give this even a ¼ star rating, but they are few and far between.

While this book did have some meaningful insights dispersed throughout, it felt very droning and repetitive. The attempts at explaining a complicated relationship between a mother and child will always come down to the individual in the end, but here the large excerpts of podcasts and constant over explaining of small behaviours made it seem a bit dulled down from the nuances in the reality of a relationship like this.

horrifyingly relatable! loved it but definitely will be thinking about it the next time I sit down to consume media and ignore things I don't want to pay attention to. This will definitely have me diversifying my reading more. Writing style was engaging and poetic and the message fell flat in a few moments but overall came through very strongly.

While the world building and politics were not really fleshed out to a level that made them an engrossing plotline, they were still entertaining enough to follow. The romance was pretty cute but I wish there had been a bit more elaboration on the way that they grew into it rather than just the flashes of change.

Gustave Dore's illustrations really elevate this poem, as they are beautiful, detailed, and layered. They add a more ominous atmosphere than can be achieved by just ones imagination in the case that you are a person who does not visualise things easily. The poem itself is also very dramatic and fun. Classic gothic stuff!!! 💜🌹
