Things Have Gotten Worse Since We Last Spoke by Eric LaRocca

Note: I don't like giving star ratings as I dont really understand the system. Please forgive the lack of one.

"It's because the planet is a carnivore and just wants to be fed. People want that as well. People like to eat other people. I spent so many years forgetting I had teeth, too."

What an incredibly grotesque and horrifyingly beautiful piece of literature. The book explores a series of encounters between the two main characters. Each one is more disturbing and boundary breaking than the last. It's raw, unflinching and unapologetic. It forces the reader to directly engage with uncomfortable situations and questions.

The writing is not for the faint of heart, but for those willing to confront the true depths of human depravity. I cannot in good faith recommend this book to anyone, unless you thoroughly understand what you're getting into.

I adore this book! Its so whimsical and fun. The worldbuilding is great, and really sets a beautiful scene. It's emotional at times, while still keeping the lighthearted feel. The writing is enchanting, really drawing you into the story and world of dreams.

If you were (or are!) a fan of the faraway tree series, this book has a very similar feeling to it.

I hate to admit that I enjoyed this book, but I really did.

Its a great horror/thriller read with a lot of very dark plot points and a twist that I wasnt expecting at all. (I am a bit daft though, I'll be the first to admit it)

If you're a sensitive reader I highly recommend thoroughly perusing the trigger warnings, as they'll definitely be needed.

All in all, if you're someone who can handle dark topics I'd recommend this to you.
