This is my first read by this author and I ended up loving it!

CANADIAN BOYFRIEND has so many funny moments where I snort-laughed while I was reading, but it's a pretty heavy read throughout. This book tackles some seriously tough topics, but in a wonderful way (including positive representation of therapy).

I loved Mike and Rory so much! They are one of those rare fictional couples that I was just desperate to be together.  CANADIAN BOYFRIEND is a slow burn and really takes the time to show the reader the emotional connection that grows between Mike and Rory.

I took off a star from my rating because, especially in the last third, this book was really heavy on the therapeutic introspection. I appreciate the depth these characters had, but it got to be too much and made the story lag at parts.

Overall, I really loved this story of grief, self discovery, healing, and love. CANADIAN BOYFRIEND was a fantastic read.

What can I say about BRIDE OR DIE? A few chapters in a character referred to a small animal as a slur that starts with M (used against Little People) and then there was an off-handed joke about a possible epileptic seizure.

I made it to around 35% when the cartoonishly one-dimensional female antagonist did a villain-esque monolog on live tv and it felt like I was reading a pre-teen soap opera script.

So I skipped forward to skim a bit and stumbled onto a scene where the heroine gets an accidental injury and is in the hospital. The doctor and nurse are repeatedly asking if she is a victim of domestic violence and the heroine keeps joking about it.

β€œClaire, this is a safe space. You can tell us what really happened,” the woman encouraged... β€œHe’s never laid a hand on you?”

β€œI wouldn’t mind if he laid a hand on me, if you know what I mean.” Claire tried to wiggle her eyebrows.

In 2024, are authors really making light of domestic violence in their rom coms? I just couldn't keep reading after that. Reading is subjective, but i am pretty amazed at the positive reviews this book is receiving.

Because this was an ARC read, I first privately contacted the author and kindly mentioned this issue. She responded with the statement that she wrote this book ages ago and had personally grown since then. Soooo..... yeah.... that was her response.

I was excited for a rom-com/romantic suspense read, but BRIDE OR DIE did not do it for me.

DNF: 34%
CW: offensive term for little people, joke about epilepsy, women murdered by serial killer, making light of potential domestic violence

I should probably start by saying I am a dirty-whore when it comes to a Scotsman in a kilt. Literally nothing hotter. So KILT TRIP did things to me.

I love the sparks that come with a well-written Enemies to Lovers and this book had the sparks, the hate-banter, the chemistry. THE CHEMISTRY, bitches.

I loved every page of KILT TRIP. It had charm, snort-laughs, spice, and an undercurrent of dealing with grief and loss.

I adored Addie and her strong work ethic, her take-no-shit attitude, and her underlying vulnerability. And Logan was just a full-tilt panty-melter. The way I smoldered whenever he called Addie "lass".

And the side characters (including Logan's complicated, but warm, family) are a delight! Please tell me this is a series and one of the side characters will be finding love. I'm begging this author!

KILT TRIP was an easy 5-STAR book for me. I laughed, I sighed, I swooned, and I sweat. The spicy scenes are seriously good!

Add KILT TRIP to the top of your TBR and you can thank me later. That's an order.

SPICE: Rated R / 2-4 descriptive sex scenes, may have harsh language.

FEELS: 3/5 - You will definitely feel some feels.

At First Spite by Olivia Dade

AT FIRST SPITE had a stop-me-in-my-tracks scene that I am still thinking about a week after finishing the book.  Despite that emotional impact, this book ended up being just an OK read for me.

On the positive side, I love that Olivia Dade hits all different notes when she writes plus size/fat lead characters. In AT FIRST SPITE, Athena's weight is mentioned indirectly, but is otherwise a non-issue. While a lot of romances rightly spend time exploring the complexities of body positivity both within the MC and those who come in contact with them, it was refreshing reading a romance where this body type just....was.

This book also hit a perfect and very respectful, but unvarnished look, at what an episode of Depression looks like. Just like the writing on weight. this writing had no heavy-handed or strong definitive value judgement on a bout of depression.  It just...was. I loved that a lot.

Now, to the rest of the book, I found the writing style really odd. It read like a Classic Lit novel in language and structure. And while that's not necessarily a bad thing, it felt really disparate to me. I'm sure some readers will really love this aspect of the writing style, but I failed to connect with it.

And while these main characters had really likable moments, I struggled to like either of them for most of the book. Athena seemed incredibly immature throughout the entire story and Matthew was frustratingly bland to me.

But the spicy scenes were fantastic! Can't end a book review without discussing the spice. Despite the great chemistry and spice, I couldn't get past her previous relationship. Again, maybe just me, but romances with i-had-lots-of-sex-with-your-brother-now-i'm-sleeping-with-you just make me feel a bit icky. Not sure there's even a way to write it that wouldn't skeeve me out a bit.

AT FIRST SPITE is a good book that just didn't resonate with me, but I am certain a ton of other readers will love it.

SPICE: Rated R / 2-4 descriptive sex scenes, may have harsh language.

Ummm... did I just read and obsessively love a book about the most boring sport on earth? Yes. Yes I did. And was it filthy? Yes. Delightfully filthy.

FANGIRL DOWN had me hooked from the first page until I closed the back cover with a happy sigh. Wells and Josephine are Grumpy + Sunshine perfection! But the grumpy and sunshine aspect is so much more than just a well-loved character dynamic, it's an important part of this book that is actually meaningful (but also charming af).

Josephine has Type 1 Diabetes and I truly loved learning more about that condition while reading those book. And the golfing setting and storylines were perfectly written. Not too little and not too much.

Now, let's talk about the important thing: SPICE. Good heavens, was this book spicy. The dirty talk was epic and that shower scene. My kindle almost burst into flames. Tessa Bailey always brings heat and this book had HEEEEEEAT.

FANGIRL DOWN has banter, sweetness, steam, snort-laugh moments, and a perfect HEA. It gets a very easy 5-STARS from me.

She Was Made For Me by Jen Morris

β€œI haven’t been able to stop thinking about how pretty you look when you come.”

I mean, holy crap, this book was H-O-T! If you've read this author before, SHE WAS MADE FOR ME is ushering in a new and much steamier writing era for her.  This book still has the NYC setting, the badass female lead, and the enlightened hero that Jen Morris writes, but with insane dirty talk, a praise kink, and bedroom spanking added.

And I love a romance with Mental Health and positive Therapy rep and SHE WAS MADE FOR ME had both. This book didn't have the humor that the last series had, but if you are looking for a steamier and kinkier Forbidden Romance read you'll love this one.

Now listen, I really struggle with age gap romance where the gap is significant. This is my own issue because it reads creepy to me. But SHE WAS MADE FOR ME absolutely changed my mind. Kyle never once seems creepy or predatory. In fact, I adored him! He is fighting this attraction with everything he has because he IS a morally good person. He's such a great counterpoint to Violet as he quietly helps her focus less on her career and take better care of herself, even during the points in the story in which these two are fighting.

And Violet is a badass that is likeable, fiery, and hard-working and I adored her! These two are a perfect pair, age gap be damned.

I took off a star from my rating because I felt like I was missing a bit of connection between these two in the first half of the book. Yes, they have some chemistry-laden interactions, but I wanted a few more scenes of them forging an emotional connection before they added a physical connection.

SHE WAS MADE FOR ME is a book you need to read if you like age gap, forbidden, love stories with a steamy edge and plenty of "good girl" bedroom talk. I can't wait for the next books in this series!

Grayson's Vow by Mia Sheridan

When I want to be emotionally wrecked with a side of smut, Mia Sheridan is my go-to author. GRAYSON'S VOW delivers on that vibe.

I adored the enemies-to-lovers hate banter between Kira and Grayson. Their chemistry is off the charts during their verbal sparring and the oops-i-saw-you-naked moment. Kira is such a badass heroine, who is forging her own path and working hard to stand on her own. And Grayson will just break your effing heart. His broody assholery hides a man dealing with grief and trying to feel wanted.

I absolutely loved the themes of found family in GRAYSON'S VOW. Unconditional love and acceptance is all around these two characters whose own families would not give them the same. Watching it unfold is a delight.

And talk about steamy hotness! Once these two finally get it on they really GET IT ON. I was here for every single bit of it.

GRAYSON'S VOW is an emotional roller coaster that is well worth the ride.

Overall, I really liked this collection of novellas! These stories are all set in the same day in which the world mistakenly thinks an asteroid is heading to earth to possibly destroy life as we know it.

ALL THE STARS by Taj McCoy
Rated: β˜…β˜…β˜…
Steam Level: PG-13 / Only 1 descriptive sex scene.
Review: This was a 2nd Chance Romance which was a pretty slow start to the book. I know it had to set up the premise, but it felt really heavy on the technical scene-setting and light on romance.  The author used the term "barefoot and pregnant" which was a big OOF for me.

KEEP CALM & CURRY ON by Farah Heron
Rated: β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…

Review: I like this author and I liked this novella. It included a heroine with anxiety and a hero reads romance books!

Review: I love a queer romance (this one was F/F), but I didn't finish this novella. The leads both read as really immature and I didn't connect with this author's writing style.

Review: I liked this novella. This romance felt unrushed, even though it was a novella in a quick time-frame. I loved that the leads pets played a part in this love story between a contractor and apartment owner and Sarah Smith always makes me crave Filipino food with her writing!

ANYTHING YOU CAN DO I CAN DO BETTER by Denise Williams
Rated: β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…

Review: This was my favorite story of the bunch! A badass woman in STEM reunites with her college academic rival and the acting out of sex fantasies is paired with a wonderful emotional connection, then and now.

Overall, this was a really good collection with a fun premise and lots of heat!

I. LOVED. THIS. BOOK.

While I really liked this author's first book (Talk Flirty To Me), PLANES, TRAINS, AND ALL THE FEELS is next level amazing!

Luke and Cassie are the enemies-to-lovers, opposites attract, will-they-or-wont-they couple I needed in my life! The setting of a road trip gone hilariously wrong is snort-laugh perfection.

And the slow burn leads to SERIOUS STEAM that was h-o-t!

PLANES, TRAINS, AND ALL THE FEELS has laughs, spice, and funny occurrences. But it also tackles family expectations, loving yourself, meaningful friendships, and loss, with thoughtfulnessβ€”without ever feeling too heavy. A smutty rom-com that also makes you think!

Are Luke and Cassie my new favorite book couple? YES.

I recommend PLANES, TRAINS, AND ALL THE FEELS a gazillion percent! Read it!

Not only is PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT funny and sweet and a really fun read, but it also tackles some more feelsy topics with a perfect hand.
