I have recently been watching the anime version of this story and rather enjoyed it so I decided to check out the manga adaptation (I believe the story originated in the form of light novels). This was a reasonably entertaining start, although most of the story elements I'm most looking forward to must be in the next volume. I'm delighted to say that my least favourite part of the anime (overly sexualised images of the teenage female characters, mainly over the end credits) did not appear here.

I'm unsure whether or not I would have continued the manga series without my prior knowledge of the story, this was a fun volume but not an especially gripping or memorable one. As it is though, I do definitely want to try volume two.

This was a very satisfying murder mystery. The clues were cleverly dropped in ways that I didn't notice at the time but largely seem obvious in hindsight.

The structure of the book is interesting, with each of the five individuals involved first being interviewed by Poirot and then sending him a narrative describing their recollections. This did unfortunately lead to a fair amount of repetition, which is my one significant criticism of the book. Overall though I enjoyed this quite a bit.
