I haven't tried delving into a fantasy book in absolute ages and I'm so happy I decided to pick this one up! I really couldn't put it down as it's past 3am now

i’m struggling between a 2.5/5 or a 2.75/5

i so badly wanted to follow the hype train on this read, and i have in some ways. this was a very good book, but it just didn’t hit me that hard. parts of it were too boring (especially once the enemies to lovers died out), it might’ve been a little too long, and i just feel like i’ve outgrown this rather simple romances that i know plenty of people are able to attach themselves to.

this is a book i would definitely recommend and i’m glad i completed it in a rather short period of time (< a week)!

i purchased this book at Barnes way back in 2010 (or possibly 2011 idek) in hardback form mainly because of the newberry recognition. i was 12. as the years passed by, i just could never get myself to read via a hardback copy even though it was my own damn fault for not waiting for the paperback release in the first place lol

i’m happy to get this off my shelf is all i can say

this worked much better for me than The Alchemist, but i'm still not the biggest fan of Paulo Coelho's writing. nevertheless, i plan to continue with this trilogy.
