Objectively, it’s probably more of a 3.5 but emotionally, it’s closer to a 4.5 so I’m splitting the difference.

I had so much fun this time. Is it flawed and a little eye rolly? Yes. But so so much better than IF and made me laugh and cry and kick me feet and scream, so I’m calling it a success.

I am a LITTLE concerned that the next book plot could annoy me, but I’m hopeful that Violet spends most of the time focusing on ruling and Xaden spends it trying to figure out how to kill his Sage and take down the Final Boss™️ (I’ve also decided this is basically a video game and each book we get a bigger boss).

Ridoc is the MVP and the exchanges with his dragon are comedic gold.

My first Tessa Bailey was a success! HOWEVER - I would like to formally request no one ever refer to the male sex organ as a “salty abundance of flesh” EVER AGAIN. What the fuck!

It’s going to take me years to emotionally recover from this book.

Every time I thought we’d hit rock bottom and turned the corner, the MC gets hit again with something somehow even worse. But I was so invested the entire time, it felt like I was right there with her.

Absolutely recommend but… maybe wait until summertime to read it. Might not mix well with seasonal depression.
