Flaws of characters a main focus? It's complicated
4.5
I finished this book in about a week. I had seen a lot of hype about this book from Reese's book club and I was pleased with the story. There was a good amount of tension and mystery building. I was able to guess one of the twists but I gasped at other parts. I have a couple of unanswered questions or things that I feel didn't really make sense, but I still enjoyed reading this and would recommend it!
This is one of my favorite books! It's such an interesting plot and the writing makes you so engaged. Sometimes I still think about this book because the story was so impactful.

I loved FireKeeper's Daughter so I was excited to check this book out. I think the first book was better but still enjoyed this one. There was mystery, adventure, and informative aspects to this book. I felt like there were maybe too many social justice topics within this one book, it made some of the less frequently mentioned topics distract from the bigger points. In reality, all of these social issues happen in parallel, but in a book it was a little bit harder to focus. Overall, I would recommend this book, especially if you liked the first one. If you haven't read FireKeeper's Daughter yet, read that first because this book will spoil what happens in the first one.
I recommend listening to the audiobook if you can, it helps being able to hear Will Smith speak his own words. Also you get to hear him do a little singing! He's a great storyteller; I enjoyed learning about the big moments in his life that have shaped him and hearing about his growth.
I loved this book. Read it really fast. I appreciated the topics around being part of multiple cultures. Because I enjoyed the book so much I keep an eye out on other books by this author.
