This book was fucked up in the best way. It kept me intrigued the entire time, I literally could not stop listening. All I knew about this book before reading was that it was about a wilderness therapy program, which is already horrifying, but add in mimics in the woods? fucking terrifying and one of my worst nightmares. But I loved seeing how the characters ended up coming together, to the point that it almost felt like a coming of age story. In a way, it was beautiful.

What a freaking cute book. SO much better than the first Falon Ballard book I read, Lease on Love.
The two main characters ended up having a similar plot as the book they end up writing together, which I thought was a really cute touch. Second chance holiday romance, only one bed, snowed in a cozy inn right before Christmas.
This is the perfect holiday read if you want something short and sweet (and full of peppermint mochas).
I loved this book and cannot wait to read more by this author. This is the first traditionally published Native rom-com!! Everyone deserves representation in all forms, even in silly rom-coms. Danuwoa is an angel and I loved his sister as well. Ember did piss me off a lot throughout the book though (even though that was kinda the point with her lying lol). Like Danuwoa said at the end, it wasn’t that she lied to get her job — that I wholeheartedly understand and agree with — it was continuing to lie to him about the silliest things like being allergic to his cat and lying to her coworkers that she had a boyfriend. Those little lies got annoying really quick. Besides that, I think this was a fantastic story about a young woman getting herself into the accounting field by any means necessary and finding love. Danica is hilarious and it really shines through the page. I also love that the FMC was sort of based on Danica’s experience getting into the workforce — she too is mixed race and finally just put “Caucasian” on job applications to finally receive a call back. I hate that so many people have to go through that, but glad that people now have that representation built into a romance book.
This novella was short, sweet, spicy, and hilarious — yet also cringey. I’ve been wanting to read a romance with fat girl x short king rep because that’s my husband and I. I am easily 100 pounds heavier than him and he is 4 inches shorter than me — but we never see that represented in any media. So thank you to Kelly Reynolds for that representation! Since this book was so short (dub, it’s a novella) there wasn’t much time for character development, though I did really enjoy the characters and want to read the second novella in the series. I did unfortunately find some of moments cringe-worthy. To be fair though, that was kinda the point lol.
Despite that, there were so many lines that I found myself laughing at or saying “aw 🥹” I’ll include some note-worthy quotes below!
The dedication: “For all the fat queens, shirt kings, and the people lucky enough to fall in love with us.”
“Her eyes lifted to mine. They were the perfect shade of my favorite English breakfast tea, two sugars, one milk, just the way I liked it.”
“My Mr. Darcy kink had officially been engaged.”
“I will not wank off in my place of business.” 😭
“I’d never been a religious man, but Jesus fucking Christ, I could’ve sworn I saw heaven.”
“The twelve days of Christmas? More like the twelve days of Dickmas.”
“She’d given me a home. I was finally home for Christmas.”
Definitely my favorite book in this series. Henry and Halle are both such little angels and are perfect for each other. Halle being the oldest daughter and dealing with what that means in the family is so relatable. Then Henry’s neurodivergence — we love representation.

This was surprisingly spicy and I kinda wasn’t prepared for the amount of smut??? I would even argue that there was too much sex and I’m not typically a fan of insta-love. But I loved these characters and the premise of the book. A bisexual Moroccan (?) kitchen witch with a hex on her love life!!!! Maid of honor x best man at a wedding!!!!! Lots of magic and love.
I lovedddd this book so much. Ashley Poston is gonna hit every time but SAPPHIC TOOOOO? Absolutely. Loved the Buffy the Vampire Slayer element. Loved the queerness. Loved the 90s nostalgia. Loved the asexual incubus. FUCK Tara’s dad and brother — and ya know what, fuck her cousin too. Tara’s poor mom dies and now they’re like 👉👉👉WITCH‼️‼️ anyway… if you want a queer ya horror mystery look no further.
