The Maid was my first mystery in a long time and it both made me remember why I like and dislike them. First, it's fun to think of who's the 'bad guy' and try to listen for clues, but it also reminds me that i'm an anxious ball of fire. I liked Molly, you become protective of her, and all the times she seems to put herself in harms way or danger can really rag on your nerves. I really think the first person narration worked because of how Molly thinks. It's never stated but I think our assumption is she's autistic because of how literal she takes everything. Like a real world amelia badelia but not silly - just a person finding social situations generally more difficult.

I didn't love the 'twist' as much. i actually thought it was Molly because of what happened with her Gran which i think would have made her moment with that asswipe in the courtroom a bit more sinister. I'm not opposed to what happened but it just seemed kind of 'fine.'

This was a lot of fun, but had a lot of depth. a wlw romance within the BDSM world, which would have already been interesting but this story brought a lot more than sex to the table.

This was such a different romance. it wasn't the most fun, but i feel like it's one i'll remember for even longer.

eva mercy suffers from migraines, and they're described so well (i say as someone who also gets migraines). it was nice to read about chronic pain in a romance - it was just another facet of her character, and it was important to how she interacted with the world.

shane is the bad boy from eva's past who returns when she's least prepared. or how could she ever really prepare. i just loved them together. they were funny, especially how shane interacted with eva's daughter. i wanted them to succeed. i wanted them to work through their respective issues and move forward together.

their teenage years were difficult to read. they had gone through so much before they inadvertently tore each other's lives apart. but  what they were meant so much to who they are now and how much they mattered to each other then just made it that much more important they ended up together. i'm so happy they did

I enjoyed this book but he does speak very quickly so sometimes it's hard to catch everything he's saying. Also, listening makes the layout a little odd (articles are not in chronological order. one minute someone is prime minister, the next it's someone else)

That being said, it's funny and informative, and I'm tempted to keep up to date with his columns in the future
