You, Again by Kate Goldbeck
3.0
✨PLEASE FORGIVE MY POSSIBLY SPOILER-Y RANT✨
I was SO ready to love this book. Anything set in New York- automatically 3 stars for me and When Harry Met Sally is romcom gold, so I was sold. But this…Josh says Ari is obnoxious and wrong about everything and I thought, exactly right Josh- so are you. He’s self-righteous, prejudice and puts so much undue pressure on people to fit this vision he’s made up for how life is “supposed” to be. And it’s one thing to be candid talking about sex but Ari’s whole personality is having the crude humor of a 13 year old boy. She’s not a great friend, I really didn’t find her funny and her casual drug use to run away from her entire life at warp speed got old real fast. They’re both selfish and kind of mean. I’m being hardcore judgemental- I’ve totally acted selfishly, I freeze like Ari when trying to figure out what to do with my life, I sometimes have unfair expectations of people. Adulting is hard and this book shows that beautifully. I appreciated that it goes deep into their complex feelings about all the things they went through and them navigating their relationship. Much as I hated these two, I nearly wept at the times they were truly honest with each other and how they grew.
