took me a month reading because i didn’t want to finish and now that i did, im completely stuck right now.

there’s so many things i want to say about this book but all i want to do is listen to soc playlists & cry myself to sleep but i’ll touch on a few things.

the character development and foundation of love i have for these characters is extraordinary. Leigh Bardugo’s ability to make you adore and cherish these characters can not be praised enough. one day i too want to make my readers laugh as much as i have, cry as hard as i have, and scream as loud as i have while reading.

the absolute insanity i went through from seeing the crows’ reaction of a certain character to the awestruck adoration of wesper to seeing the crows departing to the feral emotions of kanej closure… yeah i need to chase this feeling again.

also!! SOFT KAZ ??? YEAH. YEAHHHHHHH.

but wow… what a ride & im being entirely honest when i say, i did not know that it’s been a month like i did not plan this.

now do i read s&b, the beginning of the grishaverse or leave this chapter to close for a little while…?

there’s so many things i can say about this book but the fact that i was crying because i didn’t want to finish it, says a lot.

just wow. the characters, the plot, the world building, the emotion, the backstories. everything.

i watched the shadow & bone show before reading so knew the basics based on the show but reading it is a different story entirely, given on soc was a subplot on the show also.

the character’s banters have to have been my favorite part of the book as well as watching kaz’s aggression intensify when it comes to inej. who’s my favorite character? it’s a cross between nina and kaz. what’s my favorite ship? oh ofc it’s kanej.

ahhh i can see myself rereading this book so many times and im so eager to read crooked kingdom. as much as i don’t want to, i may be too eager to dive into the grishaverse and might decide to read the s&b trilogy, idk yet. but right now, i prefer the soc duology over the trilogy. why? the characters; i’ve heard things about getting so attached to the crows and yes, it is indeedly true.

okay… so it was okay.. i probably would have liked it more if i’ve never seen the show & didn’t read six of crows first but oh well. it was generic & alina annoyed me a lot… i hate female MCs that don’t recognize their worth, it sucks but i understand why she’s like that. her & mal <333. also genya is my favorite…for now since i know nikolai (aka strumhond) is introduced in s&s. also i was kinda of confused on what happened with her at the end…did she leave the castle of her own volition or…? either way i’m glad she’s free.

wished i couldn’t picture ben barnes as the darkling but even so it wouldn’t make me ship him & alina. also, i feel like he doesn’t understand his own motives…

upon reading the book, i knew i was going to love it because hades and persephone’s story is one of my favorites from Greek mythology. however, the more i read, the more i wanted to be done with it. don’t get me wrong, i love the change in outlook on Greece, the modernization of it all; one of the highlights from the book. it was just…very rushed, when the intensity and eagerness faded away, so did my attention. i’m still going to read the rest of the series because i hate starting things and not finishing them but overall, the book was average at best.

okay so, same standing as the first book however i wanted to finish it as soon as i started page one. there were some aspects of the book i liked though. i liked how Apollo and Persephone reconciled at the end (it was endearing), the introduction of Leuce, as well as the growing relationship between Persephone and Hecate.

the second half of the book was better than the first, and “THE” situation… made me inches away from tearing up the entire time.

also Persephone’s character really annoyed me and made me so frustrated.. just completely lacking for me. the ONLY parts that made me tolerate her was when she was either defending herself, showing improvement in her powers, letting her TRUE powers show and becoming worthy of the title Queen of the Underworld; because at these parts, she had depth.

all in all, im so glad i’m on the third book now so that i can finish this series…

alright. besides a smut scene every other chapter (sometimes a jumpscare in the middle of a good chapter too), this one actually deserves 3.5 stars from me (which isn’t possible so we’re just gonna go with 3 instead of rounding bc i would like to humble it). i liked the addition of the other gods, the multiple antagonists that were puppets mastered by the actual villain, the turn of characters, and the shock value was intriguing. i was on the edge of my seat several times, dying to know more and dying to know how things went.

did persephone’s character annoy me less? yes. is she my favorite character? no and never will be. do i still like hades’ portrayal? no.

now, let’s talk about what i didn’t like; the pacing. i felt like things were moving too fast and i would’ve loved to know more about things that were glossed over. for example, lexa and thanatos: how did that start? was thanatos’ feelings for lexa getting in the way of persephone seeing her best friend?

and lastly, as i said the smut scenes… we get it. persephone is never fulfilled after, the sex gets better and better, and hades loves seeing her suffer. the many times i skipped over them because it was like i had everything engrained in my brain.

the wait for the next book is over a year and while i can patiently wait, i have a feeling i’m gonna forget all about this book by then. at least it served slightly better than the other two that preceded it.

AT LAST! I FINISHED AND I CAN MOVE ON TO MY NEXT READ !!!

lorddddd okay… first…of all… great goodness. i stand for it when i say that nikolai is literally kaz’s cousin like that man… OOOFFF also the dualities between his, zoya’s and nina’s povs is so entertaining and downright depressing. you got nikolai and zoya’s banter and them fighting inside within themselves their affection for one another (zoyalai.), and then there’s nina’s chapters which are shredded in despair and grief because she can’t let mathias go…. i just cant.

i also was impartial to zoya & now…yeah she’s a warrior & reminds me of my oc in my story…also interested to know how her knew “affiliation”…is gonna go bc my girly TRANSFORMEDDDD OOOF

nina and hanne??? YESS. GOD YESSS. I APPROVE. I SHIP. I LOVE. they’re so funny & nina’s subtle & secret flirting & pinning??? MY LOVELY IS SO PROUD OF HANNE’S TRANSFORMATION HEHEHE

all in all…i’m not gonna lie…it was a bit slow in the beginning and the middle & the direction it went to..i wasn’t expecting but wasn’t disappointed either. juris & grigori’s little bear cub servant <3 so yeah. 3.5/5 from me & im so excited to read rule of wolves tonight despite reading a sliver of the ending while i was reading crooked kingdom…but now that i read king of scars…i’m so intrigued to see how it goes. LETSSS GOOO ALMOST DONE W THE GRISHAVERSE & I CANNOT BE MORE RELIEVEDDD (but it’s gonna be bittersweet bc this series has kept me sane since february).
