3 ★ I know a lot of people are going to hate me for saying this, but hear me out !! prose wise this book was absolutely stunning. I highlighted and underlined on every single page and tabbed so much. It was absolutely gorgeous and emotional and beautifully written. that being said i did not feel connected to the characters. I felt like they were not real people; when I read books, I want characters that feel like they’re sitting in the room beside me. I feel connected to them and that’s what gives me the five star feeling, but these ones did not. I get that that was the point to make them seem more distant and not give them real names and things like that to prove the plot of the story (and trust I think the plot was so incredibly creative,) but I just didn’t feel connected to them enough to give it higher than a 3 star rating. beautiful book, I will come back for the underlined quotes, but I’m giving 3 stars. 🥹🤍

so many conflicting thoughts that are hard to articulate. had too high of expectations going in HOWEVER still really enjoyed myself.my qualms mostly arose with the writing style: very very repetitive, tell not show, over explaining, and also the book was eerily similar to red queen from 2015. YHAT BEING SAID… although those issues dropped the book from my expected five star rating i was still kicking my feet and giggling at this (not enemies to lovers like advertised but) incredibly fun flirty banter romantasy plot. surprisingly veryyyyy slow burn (and also i had to keep reminding myself it’s a YA book so don’t expect a lot anyway) but wow i heart kai and paedyn and can’t wait to see how the sequel goes. 4 stars !! finished the audiobook in under a day. :) super classic but entertaining romance with a surprising mix of spicyyy scenes and emotional caretaking. also it managed to avoid a third act miscommunication troupe breakup, which is my least fav thing in a romance !! extra points for that. overall very cliche and predictable but in a sweet way. 4 stars.

4.5 ★ knotting scenes aside, this was by far the best book i’ve ever read by ali hazelwood. although it was a little predictable, the combination of boy obsessed and misery’s snarky humor made for such a fun romance book, and ali 100% needs to write more paranormal stories. do i see a fuckwaffle sequel coming soon ????
