A lovely story with well-considered plot points and a fairly weighty message for a Christian romance novel… I just found Oke’s writing a little repetitive and simplistic at times. Don’t get me wrong; there are some rather nice quotes in there, I just think her narrative voice was not on-par with her plot and character development.

The first and second acts were not bad, but the final act? Oh, phenomenal. While The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe provides  a beautiful depiction of the ultimate sacrifice Jesus made for the sake of traitors, The Silver Chair paints a clearer picture of the false reality in which we live, that we have exchanged our crowns and true jewels for life in the Shallows.

The descriptions of the swordplay and action sequences was wonderfully vivid. Lewis transitions so smoothly from descriptions of wacky magical exploits to gritty war scenes. Simply delightful.

So well-written, so beautifully reflective… I love this novel and the story it shares.
