Very cute, emotional and great trope book… marriage as a convenience, second chance , enemies to lovers ish.
I had a hard time starting this one, I don’t know if it was just my mood when I started or not but it took me a bit to get into it.. I wasn’t wanting to pick it up but pushed through and when I reached chapter 6 I started getting more into it. Some of the phrases and words were a bit confusing for me and I was going huh at times.. although I was still able to continue without feeling like I missed something important.
Going forward , I love the dual POV of the MCs and the past to present. It was important to know the back story of their relationship for the store to make sense.
The MCs have not seen each other in over 7 years and ended off on the wrong foot, they inheritance their lesbian grandmother’s (which I thought was awesome BTW .. we never see lesbians grandmas ever.. Atleast I don’t) home and have to decide what to do with it .. while figuring out the home situation they are forced to deal with each other.
This book was an emotional one for me, there is some trauma involved as well as unresolved feelings and issues.. I found myself tearing and emotional at times because I sympathized with the MCs and felt my heart ache for them. Then of course there was tears of happiness.
Overall, I enjoyed this book.. I think the story itself is cute and the romance as well. The spice is an added extra which I enjoyed.
There are a couple laggy parts as well, so this and the slowish beginning and the confusing phrases / words knock off a star for me unfortunately.

What an interesting read. I did not know what to expect from this book , I usually am not the one to read much of fantasy / paranormal but with the romance thrown in there I ended up really enjoying this read. I had no idea where this book was going to go, it was unexpected and enjoyable and really drew me in and made my imagination run wild. It made me think of twilight a bit but instead of vampires it was mermaids. I am a huge romance book lover so with all the romance that was added I really enjoyed it and for all the feels.. I even wanted to cry at one part.
This book has a timeframe of many years , in between so there is always something new and different happening in the characters lives.
The book is told in first person and is in a MMC point of view. I’m not sure if I have ever read a book where the story was told from the males perspective so that was different for me as well. I enjoyed. Karter is a teenager boy , when he is first introduced to us. He is an intelligent, athletic and musical but he has had struggles all his life and never could find out why. Throughout the book he goes through ups and downs , has times of highs and lows. He has high expectations within his family and with his difficulties in the way, he seems to only find support from Papa Joe. Ella is the FMC , she has always watched from afar and has many secrets of her own, including that she is a mermaid. The connection between the two is as strong as ever and as you read along you fall in love with the two of them and found out why and how their connection is so strong. But not without some unexpected events that occur.
The book takes you down this love story with moments of happiness, love, shock, unexpected events , predictions that you will probably be wrong about and other emotions. The spicy scenes were great as well! Overall I say this is a great read, if you love Romansy I’d give this one a try. Or if you are new fantasy.

My first Colleen Hoover book. Start to finish it kept me wanting to read more. I expected some things to happen but still loved the book so much. Romance, spicy, trauma/ abuse. The last two pages had me SOBBING.

So cute and cheesy. If you are looking for a predictable, mushy , giddy romance book , then this one may be for you. Everything was predictable just from reading the synopsis. Not enough spice, and I kept saying “COME ON!!” In frustration at some parts (you’ll see why if you read) but it kept me wanting to read more and more to find out WHEN and IF and what happened next. The ending cut a bit short but the epilogue made up for it. I wish there was more to the ending and what happened after. Liked it a lot regardless cause I’m a sap.

From chapter 2 I knew everything that would end up happening. I guess because it’s a romance novel ?
As a mom, this book had me in tears, my heart broke at parts and I would’ve thrown my phone across the room if it didn’t end the way it did.
Loved the story. I’ve been loving Colleens books even if they are predictable.

This book was too quick and rushed through. I finished the audio book in 4 hours. The twist was good I didn’t expect that… but it was all too fast.. and I didn’t get the epilogue “mom says two can keep a secret if one of them is dead” , it made it seem like Adeline was Patricia’s mother ???

If you decide to read this book and you are about to DNF it don’t. The first half of this book felt like it dragged on forever, I was bored at some parts and found there was not really any suspense.. and honestly I was so confused. It all adds up in the end. I’m glad I kept reading though because man after I got half way through I couldn’t stop. It got sooo good, my prediction was right but the twists as I read further and further made up for the moments I wanted to give up. I’m glad I finished it. This is my first book from John and I plan to read more.
If you are triggered my gruesome crimes and child abuse this is your trigger warning.

Not as suspenseful as her other books. I was expecting there to be a suspense and OMG moments but there wasn’t for me and now that I have finished reading I don’t think it needed those factors to make me enjoy it.
I really liked this story and I’d recommend it. I’d say it is somewhat predictable but the way everything unfolds and ends up makes the book a good read.
