Klara and the Sun by Kazuo Ishiguro
4.0
This is a story about AFs. There is only one AF in the story, but it’s not about the humans. It’s about how an AF sees humans, and how an AF sees the world. It can be messy at times, but I’m starting to notice the Sun more, to appreciate the Sun more, and to see the Sun in a different way.

Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro

This book broke me, destroyed me, and somehow I came out of it stronger.
When We Were Orphans by Kazuo Ishiguro
In a strange sense, this book has made me feel less alone and lonely than any person has in my whole life. When we were orphans, maybe I am still an orphan, facing this big, cold, and cruel world all by myself, except now I have this book with me, and it gives me comfort knowing that it will always be with me, that maybe there are people who are like me in this world after all.
Digital Minimalism: Choosing a Focused Life in a Noisy World by Cal Newport
This book had and is still having a large impact on my digital habits. I actually implemented some of the tips suggested in this book, namely, deleting all social and entertainment focused apps from my phone but leaving them on my iPad (the actual tips might have a little variance, like deleting apps but using their website versions, I don’t remember exactly). It’s surprising how well this works. Just by not having them on my phone, my usage of them decreases significantly. It just goes to show the transient and fleeting nature of these apps, they don’t have any essence. You just need to learn to manipulate the technology the way they have been manipulating you. This way, they become way less addictive, your autonomy increases, and you can still enjoy the pleasure from your favorite apps.
How Much Land Does a Man Need? by Leo Tolstoy
turns out not much really!
The age-old wisdom book about money and greed. It’s still happening around the world every single day, people giving all they have in the hope of making financial success. To me, it’s common sense not to pursue financial wealth because A, it takes too much time and effort, and B, I can’t take it with me when I die. What more reasons do you need? Why so many people still put so much of their valuable life into making more money is beyond me. My only hope is that I will never become one of those zombies.
Here is to voluntary poverty and voluntary freedom. 🍻
