Really well executed, creepy Gothic horror novel. Ends with a trope I kind of hate and isn't particularly doing anything new or original but it ticks all of my boxes for what I want from a ghost story.

This book was so deeply stupid. Like firstly it's not even close to a horror book and half of it is a group of suburban upper class yuppies playing a fucking escape room while the actual mystery and twists manage to be extremely predictable. It takes you out with what could have been a satisfying ending with one of the corniest deus ex machinas I've ever seen and ends with an internal monologue from the most unlikeable pov character meditating on how people shouldn't be defined by their worst moments when she has done like, absolutely no reflecting and faced no consequences, nor has the book made us aware of anything positive she's done besides that she has kids the reader knows nothing about and that she's a dentist. A DENTIST!!! like really truly i wish most of these characters would have gotten put in Saw traps because maybe then they would have actually learned something.

I keep picking up these like, dark fantasy adventures. Lots and lots of action, which isn't really my thing, and it's well written. I wish there had been more time fleshing out the world and characters though, there seems to be all of this interesting context that stays just out of periphery.

Spins a whole cast of interesting characters and proceeds to do practically nothing with them. I think it's one of those that's supposed to be empowering but it just left me wondering "why"
