4.75

Around page 200 I was prepared to give this book a 4, the pace is fast, but the writing is slow- if that makes any sense. The moments of suspense are leapt through without any real attention paid, but I think the beauty of this book is in the moments beyond the moments of intensity.

The last 130 pages brought me up to a 4.75. It was charming, and understood its point of view. I find myself smiling having finished it. I want an animated film based on it.

In the acknowledgements of this book TJ is pretty direct about how editors adapted this book from what he wanted it to be, but “the world wasn’t ready for it”

I can’t help but wonder if that version would have been better- the version that presently exists is toothless and half baked, with characters that live between charming and obnoxious. I really wanted to love this book!

Achingly wholesome, tirelessly romantic, steamy sexy gay smut in 4 bite-sized vignettes, all with a slice of life moment encasing them

I just really hated her writing style, and I could have used 100% less Arthur & Miranda.

Part of my issue may have been my expectations going into it, but I wanted it to be about the troupe and the post apocalyptic experience way more

The last few chapters are pretty exciting but wow did I hate the main character and while the ideas in this book are super fun, ultimately there’s a lot of nothing- to me- personally.

I think Hank Green is fun and entertaining and this is just too much of it in too concentrated a form.

I loved this book. A queer fantasy story with a diverse set of characters with diverse bodies.

It really takes off once the adventure begins, and then builds the world while it moves the story forward. A mix of adventure, brave new worlds and romance.  I saw relationships I’ve had in this book. I saw myself in it too at times.

I struggled with the violence and ruthlessness of the villains, but that’s simply who I am as a person, and telling of the degrees of their villainy.

A must read for any gay bears, and for any furries. [any  gay bears who are furries- call me]

I tried so hard to finish this but the narration is so rambling and incoherent that I had to stop. So many things explained in detail for no fathomable reason
