I really wanted to like this but the inner dialogue of the main character (the majority of text) is frustratingly pretentious and edgelordy.

I could not get past the childish cadence of the writing style. It made sense when Molly was a small child but less so as she becomes a young adult. She's sheltered, yes, but also apparently very well read. All I was hanging on for was the answer to the mystery, which is not enough for me.

Not sure why this is billed as a thriller. It's more a slow meditation on a mish mash of human experiences through the lens of a survival story. The central mystery, which doesn't happen until over half way through the book, is never really addressed. It's just a plot device, which is fine except that when a reader is expecting a thriller, this is unsatisfying.

It is probably a solid 5 star read if what you want is a slow, purposeful wilderness survival story. It was not for me though.

The twist killed it for me.

I was more interested in having the mystery solved than I was in reading. The text itself was slow and a bit droney for me.
