Reminded me a bit of A Simple Plan except the protagonist is a lowlife. I'm not sure if any of the characters are decent or they all seem off because I'm seeing them through the eyes of a horrible person.

I listened to this and when I heard "South Carolina" I thought this was going to become some sort of Jungle-like story where Cora touches on every aspect of the slave trade - but it didn't happen.

It became a tad bit slow in a couple of spots but overall I enjoyed it.

Some real twisted stuff. I liked the The Gospel Singer more.

I went back and finished it but I shouldn't have. Nobody here is interesting and nothing interesting happens.

My first from this author. It became a bit tedious after awhile.

This has a strong Child of God vibe with a little Suttree tossed in.
