incredible book. easy 5 star read, will recommend to anyone, even people who don’t like science fiction. the writing is funny and lighthearted, the science is convincing but easy to follow, the characters are so loveable and realistic and you end up rooting for them through and through. i’ve laughed and panicked and celebrated and cried alongside Grace and Rocky. this book has, very surprisingly, made my top reads of all time (The Martian hasn’t). i will be following Andy Weir’s writing closely from now on.

this book was very much a lighthearted book of self discovery and trying to carve out a place you belong when the world has conditioned you to think that who you are is wrong, or that certain types of love are more valuable than others. happy aro week and i wish nothing but platonic magic to all the aro-aces out there 🤗

even after hearing Zadie Smith call out our tendency to need to know the race of someone as a baseline for how we view them, and even after i know that in the end it didn’t matter in the case of Twyla and Roberta, i still found myself logging each of their characteristics in my head, and trying to decipher the recitatif of their speech, in an effort to figure out their race.
