I think the twists in this book were done better than many of Sager’s books, but he lost me with the whole possession thing. I just really didn’t enjoy the supernatural element and was disappointed that it became the pivotal focus of the novel. However, I felt like the characters were better fleshed out than many of his other female characters, and appreciated that I didn’t expect the ending. I do feel like it’s hard to believe that a mother would send her child to get sober in the place where her husband drowned though.

I was disappointed by this book. I predicted at least part of the ending after the first chapter, and it felt like the author was so concerned with creating a twist ending that the plot became cartoonishly implausible. Too much of the plot was cliche and trite, and there are so many unanswered questions and unresolved plot lines. An episode of Criminal Minds is better written than this book.
