I absolutely loved the focus on chaol dissecting and processing his past feelings and actions towards Aelin. The character growth was inspiring to see and redeemed his character immensely. Whilst I understand chaol can be unliked in this series I think his character provides such humanity in his flaws. To be human yet surrounded by so many powerful beings and witnessing the tyranny and devastation that occurs when handled by the wrong person, it is clear why chaol felt so disconnected and cautious of aelin in his worry for the human people who continue to suffer at the hands of magic. Where can the line be drawn between ruler and oppressor?
I adored the involvement of yrene in chaol facing his guilt and shame, to heal wounds beyond physical.

I find the focus on small acts of kindness in this book so simple yet so beautiful. The message is so strong and reinforces that all kindness is eventually repaid, that when you are kind unconditionally the world will be to you (in fiction anyways)

Some of the plot twists near the end I admit I did not see coming when I usually can foresee plot twists. I love how integrated everything is in this world and interwoven the past books are. The links from assassins blade with Celeana helping Yrene unknowingly that she was the future answer to healing the Valg. So satisfying and makes the investment in the series worth it.
