I would have enjoyed this a lot more if I had read it before Pride and Prejudice, as I couldn't help comparing the two. S&S isn't as funny and its herione not as witty, which were some of my favorite parts of P&P. I did identify closely with Elinor and I enjoyed the story, but I didn't love it the way I loved P&P.

I read this after having seen and loved the movie. I've read it several times since, and I love how it provides so much context for things in the movie (my favorite examples being Inigo's personal history and the Pit of Despair). It's slow in the beginning but picks up after Wesley leaves. It's a fairy tale in a lot of ways, which is why I hesitate to say there is much character development.

It has its flaws, but I love it so much.

I listened to this on audiobook and I fell head over heels for the reader's accent but especially his voice (most notably for Skulduggery himself). The world is vast and deep, the magic system interesting, and the characters varied. The voice of the writing is excellent. I almost immediately bought the rest of the series because I just needed them in my life.

My two biggest issues were probably the pacing in the last third of the book, and the fact that Stephanie rarely felt properly 12 years old. Most of the time she felt a lot older, some of the time she felt significantly younger.

This is a personal favorite. I appreciate Jane Austen's wit, I adore the characters and how they fit into the world, and I love the social commentary. This is NOT a romance. It's a comedy of manners.
