I do enjoy Chimeka Garricks writing. This is a well written short story collection that cover a lot of topics. The stories are cleverly intertwined

Amazing writing style that is utterly engrossing demonstrating how an interpretation of religion can lead to violence, isolation, distraction and severe abuse.

This follows a woman who overcame all of this to gain her doctorate. True story of resilience.

Very meh book that will not be memorable in a few months. Flat writing that got better as the book went on. There were some heavy themes but did not think they were explored well.

Would be great for a palate cleanser, if in between heavy books.

The book ended strong but generally this was a poorly executed book and I did not feel the character growth

Typical romance exploring marriage. I went into this blind as I’ve read a few of the authors other books and I assumed it would be to the same standard but this was definitely the most average. It’s a typical cheesy, feel good romance, which is not what I was expecting.

Easy enough read but definitely won’t remember it in a few months.

This book is special and shines a light on a specific part of the transatlantic slave trade. It was highly informative.

This followed a mix race, white passing missus of a jail ‘married’ to a white jailer. The idea of being a ‘Yellow Wife’.

This book is a tough read with so many parts making you look away but definitely a story that needed to be told. It’s loosely based on a true jail making it more harrowing.

The only thing that prevented it being a 5⭐️ is that I was slightly disappointed in the ending but that didn’t take away from the whole book. Amazing writing that has you visualising the horror that was slavery!

I was given this ARC at a book event and it was disappointing, given the blurb.

It started off very strong. I was invested in knowing what happened to the kidnapped chilled and I was invested in the main character, who was chaotic but loveable.

However, the book did not progress well. Major major plot holes and when it came to the ‘big reveal’ or ‘twist’, although I did not see it coming, it bore no relevance to the blurb! It felt unrealistic and had me rolling my eyes.

I enjoyed this book. Very detailed book detailing the Sri Lankan civil war. I loved the POV of this book, written through the eyes of a female medic.

This book was dark and parts made it challenging to read but overall, it was excellent writing.

Would recommend this read and the only reason it was not 5⭐️ is that it got a bit technical with the political language towards the end, and I’d say focused on that more than the emotion. Would’ve been great to get more on her brothers journey at the end.

This is a contemporary book spotlighting how easily typing girls can be groomed into gang life or sexually groomed.

It covers very sensitive subject matter and is unique in the spotlight being on girls vs boys. It’s a fast paced easy read but the writing was a bit basic so didn’t draw out as much emotion as I would have liked.

Overall a pleasant, easy read I competed in a few days.
