{Pros}
- That first scene was everything.
- I loved a lot of the characterizations and how well rounded all characters are. You can feel all of their emotions and you empathize with them.
- Lila Bard continues to be the ultimate BAMF and if she doesn’t get a happy ending I will riot. It’s one of the only self proclaimed “badass” character that I actually believe is a force to be reckoned with.
- I enjoyed how Rhy’s character has been expanded. I didn’t think him as annoying as I thought he was in the first book.
- Holland. Although barely in the book, I love his motivations. I totally understand why he acts the way he does. He’s one of the best villains I’ve ever read.
- Rhy and Alucard Ooooffff

I do love this series!!! Honestly, when I first started reading this book, I was thinking it would be a 4 star read. I was enjoying it and definitely couldn't put it down, but it wasn't quite gripping me like a 5 star read. Until those last couple of hundred pages. Boy did things really start rolling! And what a cliffhanger ending!!! Normally such an ending would piss me off, especially since I would usually have to wait for the next book, but in this case, I have the next book. Now I'm just pissed because I have to wait for my Jar to give me permission to read it... All Hail The Jar. I absolutely love Lila and her reckless, but brilliant schemes. I'm absolutely hating the King (he's such an idiot!!!!) and really want to give Kell (and Rhy) a hug. I was also constantly torn between loving and hating the fact that as the reader, I knew what the bad guys were up to, but literally no one else in the story had any idea!!! It was infuriating but also kept me at the edge of my seat, more so towards the end when again... things really got rolling! Can't wait to read the conclusion of this trilogy!! And I think I need to buy the graphic novels.

I just could not get over how oddly the characters seemed to behave. I already was slightly annoyed in the first book, but there it did not bother me as much as here. I mean Lila is just an arrogant thief that thinks she's better than everyone else, and Kell also did a complete 180 compared to the previous book. And the super random kissing/whatever, just why? I can't put myself through this anymore

This book kind of felt like one giant filler, but it was enjoyable anyway (especially Alucard and Lila's banter. God I love them). Despite this, the book didn't feel entirely without purpose: I feel like the time devoted to establishing Kell and Rhy's new bond and how it impacts them (and introducing Lila as a magician (and introducing Alucard and Osaron in general etc.)) probably will serve the third and last book well.

While I felt like the Essen Tasch kinda just was invented to (as mentioned) 1. Introduce Lila as a magician and 2. Have something that happens while establishing the bond between the brothers, I did like it. Partly just because of the well-written action and since it's fun to read about Lila kicking ass, but also because it gave me everything I wanted (and didn't get) from Throne of Glass (on the same note; Lila is what I thought I would get from Celaena (who just turned out to be a big disappointment instead)). I feel like I now can just erase Throne of Glass from its existence within my mind, and replace it with this book (with that said; if this would have been a stand-alone book I'd probably have given it a 4/5, but seeing how it didn't bring as much as I wanted to the overarching story with Black London and it's mysteries it goes down to a 3).

And also; thank god for Kate Reading and Michael Kramer! Their performance really increased my enjoyment of this book, compared to the first one!
