Very slow beginning.

This was fine. Didn't love it. Didn't hate it.

“People don’t just take breaks in relationships to catch up on work.”

Wait. What. They don't? Ah, so this is why I'm single. LMFAO.

“I’m not sure she even has a millisecond of time to think about romance, but it’s fine; I think about it enough for the both of us.”

I've liked all of the books in this series so far, and Ansel IS my favorite, but you know what, Oliver's steady calming energy is right up there too.

I wasn't expecting to relate to Lola and Oliver as much as I did. I understood their fears about not wanting to do things wrong and navigating professional and creative pressures. I especially enjoyed that the foundation of their support was in their friendship and the way they understood each other's careers and creative mindsets.

“I unload my life on pages, transporting myself to a different world and seeing how I might react, survive, thrive.”

"Figure out how to balance Oliver with a career you’ve wanted your whole life," he tells me. "Because you’ll end up with neither if you think you have to choose."

“I’ve realized . . . I’ve never needed to matter to someone as much as I need to matter to you.”

“I love you still. Whatever else you’re thinking, that’s not changed with the sunup. I loved you before last night. I’ll love you tomorrow. I’ve just said the words now.”

So here's a bunch more of my favorite quotes because Christina Lauren are masters of emotion:

She can fight her way back to me. She doesn’t need saving. If I went in there now and tried to walk her through everything between us, I’d always wonder if she’d have come back to me on her own.
I have to believe she’ll fight for us, that I’m not wrong about her. I have to believe that I want to be there for her, always, but that she doesn’t need me to be.

"You’re afraid you’re going to abandon the things you love."
"So you’re preemptively abandoning them. Or, if I know you as well as I think I do, you don’t let things get too deep in the first place."

“Stop,” he says quietly. “This isn’t what I mean. I don’t mean you should hide when you’re emotional. I mean you should recognize that I’m the guy who wants to see how you’re feeling. To hear about it.”

“But I need to know that you’re not going to leave, either. I can’t feel like I come second. You will always come first to me,” he says. “I will never take you away from your art, but I don’t ever want to feel like a distraction to you.”

My favorite of the series so far!!! If you know me, you know I’m a friends-to-lovers lover TO NO END.

Oliver and Lola are just so cute and nerdy and I loved the friendship they built before they dove into anything romantic.

Oliver is HANDS DOWN my favorite character of the series so far. He is so sweet and considerate and such an amazing friend to Lola in the beginning. He was so determined to make her understand how he felt about her and that everything he was doing was intentional and not him just trying something out with her. I LOVE HIM…spice was amazing too lol.

As for the third-act conflict, uggghhhhh it was just so frustrating because I knew it was coming. It could have been handled better between the characters but AHHHH I get where both were coming from in a way. Resolution was also very quick.

Overall, I love Oliver Lore and I hope to get glimpses lol Loliver in the last book ✨

When I first saw the release date for this I was so excited, just a few days before my birthday, how wonderful. In fact, the fact this book was Oliver, the Aussie, and the one I knew would be devoted to cool comics and have a more nerdy feel, I was pumped.

Unfortunately, I couldn't give it a 5 star rating for one reason. And that reason was Lola. I thought I would love her because she's not the type of person to do things without thinking, but in actuality, she doesn't just think things through, she exhausts herself with overthinking and she ended up exhausting ME.

I understand her issues from her mother because my mum did the same thing to our family and it sucks, unlike her I ended up eventually getting to see my mum and it didn't effect me like it effected my brother. So I get why she's so messed up. That doesn't mean I can forgive you, Lola Love.

Oliver is the shizznit, and from the beginning he admits he lover her. I was worried it would be a friend zone type book, but it wasn't. Lola just ended up being oblivious to Oliver's adoration of her until he came out with it. And right here I'll add that that first steamy encounter, of the drawing Oliver in just his boxers, was kinda a great thing for me. I unashamedly will admit, it was a scene that actually was a turn on.

Things are a lot more simple in this. In the end I feel it wasn't so much about their sex, more their feelings. I usually see some find of fetish going on, and I didn't pick up on anything other than Oliver wanting to take things slow and love, and the very evasive kind of shower scene where I'm certain anal sex took place, and felt very weird and didn't quite need to be there.

All in all, Lola needed to get her head out her arse and speak what she was thinking cause nobody is a mind reader as my partner likes to tell me when I'm moody. And she totally sucks for taking out all her stress on him when deep down even she knew he wasn't the problem. Ugh. Silly billy.

Also, I'd like to add how bullshit it was with all the hoo-haa about Oliver's accent in this series. We aren't that fucking hard to understand. We don't speak fucking Klingon.

I know a lot of readers hated this book and some of the reviews were so bad that they totally put me off this book. Instead I decided to skip ahead to Wicked Sexy Liar, which I loved and made me love Oliver just a little bit so, of course I had to come back to this book and see how his story plays out.

AND I LOVED IT!

Hands down, favourite book of the series.
Its definitely one to read if you have a thing for the friends-to-lovers plot.
