I love Rin's work but this one left me feeling rushed. The creativity and her mind was definitely there but the writing felt off and didn't come close to the level of the bone witch or the girl from the well. I still loved the concept and story line though!

oooh i'm so torn. all i know is that this is a 3 to 4 star rating for me. i'll bump it up to 4.

i liked this book, okay. i liked the plot twists, the slow reveal of stuff. i kinda knew that Alon
Spoileris the sacrificed woman's child
but also i was surprised that they
Spoilerwere actually the Diwata's adopted child
lmao. it made sense to be honest.

i also like how the ritual
Spoilerwas never finished
! i was fully expecting
Spoiler Alon to be in on it
but that was a nice subversion of the trope.

and of course, the colonialism comments *chef's kiss*. although, it is weird that they're supposed to be near Leyte but Alon's speaking in Tagalog. they were also
Spoilerraised by their grandma
so i don't know. It would have been cool if Alon did speak in Waray the few times that he talked using a Filipino language.

this is scary but not "put down the phone to recover" scary for me. i made a lot of "ooh that is disgusting" faces while reading though hahaha. maybe this is why i'm on the fence about the rating. but all in all, this is a nice spooky read.
