Love and Friendship, by Jane Austen

Hilarious to read because of the absurd satire on sensibility and courtship at that time. Even though written in her teenage years, Jane Austen already proves her talent for satire and a modern common sense with this epistolary novel.

The version that I have of this book also includes other minor works such as Austen’s letters. It was also written when Austen was younger, and the quality of the writing shows that.

There was very little plot, and I found myself skimming through the book in a bored manner. It is a short novella and the pacing is slow as well. Some reviews have stated that you have to understand the social norms and time of when this book was published to enjoy the story better. I have read other Austen works as well as other books written in the 18th century that have kept me entertained. This was not one of them.

Loved these early Austen writing attempts. It's obviously her pure joy of inventing a story, and you have to wholeheartedly enjoy it along with her.

I'm still not entirely sure what I think about this one. You can definitely see where pieces were pulled out and put into her later works. And it's meant to be a reverse point piece again, but it wasn't entirely a favorite, but I did love reading it anyway.

A sweet story with an emphasis on friendship, which I really liked.

Not Austen’s best work, obviously, but the fact she wrote this at 14 is mind-boggling.
