I loved Pierre and I could not get to understand Luce. Such two different personalities, falling in love in the most unexpected way, having thoughts and conversations I wouldn't dream of in my wildest dreams, maturely accepting their fate but not trying to fight it... I suppose that is life, no less life in the wartime.

lucia would love the 21st century and all its perks (the popularisation of the mommy dommy femdom phenomena), 2 stars because i hate the love at first sight trope and their romance felt way too rushed (and oedipal)

what all quiet on the western front did for ww1 during the entire book, this does only in the last two pages. i think it’s mostly because the structure doesn’t work so well. it’s so overcrowded with metaphors to the point that you get lost in the text.
very heavy on the pessimism that grew during the war.

that’s all very sweet, tragic etc etc, but sometimes i couldn’t take them very seriously because of the generational gap context. wdym you wish your lover was your son????

Tldr; clever, funny, capable teenage Parisian girl dates... just some guy.
