I liked this book but I think I liked The Spanish Love Deception more then this one. Is that controversial I don’t know but it’s the truth.

SPOILERS AHEAD

There was ABSOLUTELY NO REASON that Lucas and Rosie couldn’t be together other then that his visa was up. AND SHE CONFESSED HER FEELINGS AND HE WALKED AWAY, asshole.

But anyway they could of been together from the VERY BEGINNING there was NOTHING holding them back.

that’s all that’s why it lost a star because I feel like there should of been a reason that they couldn’t of been together.

I loved that it was dual POV and wish all books were. I love male POVS in books.

Rosie is Lina's best friend. She quit her job as a well-paid engineer to become a romance writer only to enter a creative slump. Lucas Martín is the only one that can pull her out. I did really enjoy this book and I think Lucas and Rosie were such beautiful characters and because their flaws were so well written and developed,  it made them seem more human. They're relationship was really beautifully written. There were a few bits that were uncomfortable and cringy to read (cough shower scene cough) and I don't think the s3x scene were very well written in my opinion. Even though I preferred the plot of the spanish love deception, i prefer the leads in this book. I'm also spanish so I can relate to the family dynamic which I really like. I'd recommend this book to anyone who loves a slow burn romance.

I think I liked this one better than the first book!  They both had some predictable elements but it was still fun to see how things played out.  I felt that a disproportionate amount of time was spent on the side stories of Rosie's brother and father compared to what they contributed to the plot and/or motivation of the main characters.  Another minor character appeared for a more reasonable amount of time and I felt had a bigger impact on the plot resolution as well as giving insight to the male lead's personality.  This had more depth, tackling some serious issues among the characters, though it could have gone deeper.

LUCAS MARTÍN WHERE TF ARE YOU?????

I've literally been in Spain for 4 months (studying abroad), yet I can't find a Lucas Martín???? HELLO??

I'm telling you, and I never thought I would say this but, my boy Aaron Blackford has got some competition HOLY SHIT- idk which one I prefer so I'll take both.

I want this woman to write my future boyfriend cause these men are fucking perfect 😭😭😭

but I digress, this was so so cute. I want a relationship like Rosie and Lucas. I loved them so much, from the very beginning.

Rosie was so fucking relatable with how shy and introverted she was. like half the time I was thinking "she just like me fr".

I loved seeing Lina and Aaron again in their little appearances, they were as cute as always.

I wish we had seen more from the blooming friendship between Lucas and Aaron, I want them to be besties like Lina and Rosie.

also, finding out Lina and Lucas have a Portuguese side in their family?????? YES PLEASE (it was just a small mention but it made me so happy). I'm Portuguese so I really need to meet them 🙈 PLS MS. ELENA I'M BEGGING. I've never seen Portuguese representation outside of Portuguese books 😭

I can't wait to read more from the Spanish love deception world and obviously any other books Elena Armas puts out.

Also, I'm gonna add this to my favourites list and I know they're technically part of a series and when I love a series I only put the first book in that list representing the entire series but this is a series of standalones so it technically doesn't count.

Considering I gave the Spanish Love Deception 1 star, this is a huge improvement. It's a 2.5, but still, a huge improvement.

The characters were more likeable than in SLD and had a bit more depth to them: more personality, hopes and dreams than just being obsessed with each other. I mean there was plenty of that too, but it was nice to have some personality independent of that. Armas explored injury and anxiety and the shame surrounding that a little bit which was interesting to read, within the context of a relationship, if a little superficial.

Things that improved it for me: Taco the dog - a dog will always make a book better for me. And it was a nice, easy read whilst stuck at home with Covid.

If you liked Love Deception I think you will enjoy this as well. A fun, slow burn, faking dating romance. I keep seeing this rated as very spicy and while there is some spice, if you are specifically looking for a spicy read you maybe disappointed.
Rosie and Lucas are both loveable characters. I especially loved Rosie, not overly sweet or perfect, and 'flawed' just enough to be relatable without bring frustrating.

The American Roommate Experiment 🛋 Review

“Lina me va a cortar las pelotas” - Elena Armas 😂

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4 Stars

Thank you @tandem @bib @simon for sending me this copy of The American Roommate Experiement as part of a readalong. ☺️

I was SO excited to get my hands on this! And let me tell you, it did not disappoint. I’ve been in a slump for quite some time, but this had me invested pretty early on. 💕

I’m a big fan of the forced proximity trope and the best friend banter throughout was top tier. It gave me The Flatshare flashbacks, which is the book that got me into rom com reading 2 years ago. Sure the plot was predictable but if you’re after a cozy, light and fun read - this is perfect. 👌🏻

Rosie was warm and kind and just lovely. Nothing we haven’t seen in a romance before but I wanted a happy ending for her. Lucas STOLE the show. He was perfect, definitely too perfect. I couldn’t WAIT for their dates and sofa scenes, I was like a moth to a flame. 🔥

The food scenes were great, the Spanish family were TOP TIER, I wanted even more Lina and we got the dog too! What’s not to love? I like that they both had back stories though these could’ve been more fleshed out. I loved how they both became what the other needed in this book. 🥰

I’m not sure what happened to the pacing by the end of this book. The airport moment didn’t play out how I expected, it didn’t feel very them. And whilst the ending was great, I needed a bit more. I wanted to see what happened NYE 👀 I almost wanted Ro to give a bit of push back too! For a 400+ page book, it all came to an abrupt stop. 🙈
