Not impressed. Had extremely old world views on POC and women.

I decided to read this book after rewatching the original version of The Time Machine movie. This is one of those rare cases where the movie was better than the book. Probably for the time it was groundbreaking. THE TIME MACHINE isn't perfect in the way any novel of any genre isn't perfect. But it is certainly a great leap of imagination that stands almost alone in its time and paved the way for future generations.

The fact that this was released in 1895 is mind blowing, definitely deserving of it’s reputation of a Sci-Fi Classic.Very damning and dark exploration of the future and the fate of mankind.
Most definitely ahead of it’s time

Assigned reading for class. I actually thoroughly enjoyed this book once I got to the part where the time traveler shared his story! I love the contrast between the two species that lived on Earth. I also enjoyed the friendship and relationship the narrator formed with one of the young girls and it made me sad when she died! It was also interesting how the time traveler escaped by traveling years into the future watching how the Earth slowly dissolved into nothingness. Easy and short read but I enjoyed it!

CW: racism, dehumanization of humans, homicidal thoughts, violence.

This one has sat on my to-read for some time, but I was inspired to read it now after I mention in the story that LeVar Burton chose to read for his last episode of LeVar Burton Reads - Ray Bradbury's The Toynbee Convector. Unlike that fine piece of literature that gives me inspiration and hope, this was depressing AF, and even more racist than I expected.

I see why it was important but it reminded me a bit of Lord of the Flies, in its dim view of humanity.
