I really want to like this series better than I do. While it is entertaining and a page turner the ending was a bit of a let down. Not sure if I'll read the next book in the series.

I don’t really have much to add on this review other, it’d be pretty much the same as my review on gone. But I do have to praise Michael for a bunch of things.
So I’m a lesbian myself and during the entire book I was waiting for Dekka to die, just like any other lesbian character I’ve read about. And she didn’t. You can’t imagine the relief I felt and I truly hope either she and Brianna gets together or she’ll find someone else. And I really really hope Michael let’s this lesbian woc live because she truly deserves it.
Mary, my baby, I’m so glad this is being highlighted. I don’t like how John and Astrid handled her eating disorder in the end, especially John, but I get where he’s coming from and after all he’s just a little kid. I love her so much and I just hope she manages to get through this.
And lastly Sams PTSD and depression because it’s so incredibly accurately described. I genuinely recognize so many things he rants to Astrid about, not because I’ve been through anything he’s been through lmao but because I recognize his thoughts and that exhaustion he’s experiencing. It’s so nice to have people you can mentally relate to for once.
I love how different all the characters all and how much representation the author has managed to handle in one book series. And it amazes me even more that it’s just a kids book series and it makes me really happy to know that kids will be able to read about all of these people with different very human psychological and psychical issues. This got really long but I just really hope it continues throughout the book and I’m anxiously but also very excitedly starting book 3 right after posting this review.

Well that's the first book of the year read and what a way to start. Sam's troubles are only getting worse and I spent most of the thinking 'what? what? what the hell? oh my God. don't you dare.' What can I say except: bring on 'Lies'!

It is an action packed full of adventure. I really love that the author did not make Sam perfect because he's supposed to be a teenager whom will commit wrong decisions. How I wish there could have been a better character / skill development with what was known already from the first book. Overall, I love the mini cliff-hanger within each chapter, it makes you want to turn the page more.
