2 gwiazdki za natashe i ave hope they get together

A solid 4 star read with a main character and team that I look forward to reading more from. The book does spend time in the killers head which may be a bit intense for some.

I absolutely love thriller and mystery books! But there is something about European mystery authors! It’s the way they they really keep you in suspense, for me, I can usually figure out the “bad guy” about halfway through the book. However, with most European authors, I’ve haven’t figured it out until right before the author reveals it themselves.
What I loved about Perfect Remains was that the book is through the eyes of the killer as well as the main detective working the case. It’s like a mash up of Law and Order where we get to know the detectives inside and outside of work, and Criminal Minds where we see some things through the eyes of the killer as well.
Perfect Remains by Helen Fields is about the body found burned beyond recognition in a deserted field believed to be a recently missing woman. This is DI Callanach’a first case in Scotland since leaving Interpol in France. He’s seems like a nice enough guy, however, I hate his self loathing, non trusting attitude. He feels like he can’t trust and get to know anyone new due to what had him leaving Interpol so abruptly. His coworker Ava, is my favorite character, I love her witty, take no mess attitude. And then there is Dr. King, the killer. My goodness! What made him creepy, was the fact that I eventually began to understand what drove him to do the things he did.
Overall, I throughly enjoyed this book from beginning to end. I thought that I wouldn’t enjoy not figuring out who the killer was, but that wasn’t a problem at all! The fact that I was reading what drove the killer made things just as interesting as if I were trying to solve the case. I’m excited to move on to book two
