I had high hopes for the official translation. My biggest issue with the fan translation was the writing style and it is slightly better in this version, but I mostly stuck around because I love the characters so much

The hype is high but the book is not. I mean it's okay but I read the masterpiece of Heavenly Official's Blessing so I'm obviously above this series. .....Nevermind, that was so sad! Why is it sad!?

A captivating story immediately from the start.
It is quite the slow burn, and some paragraphs tend to go on for much longer than they need to or repeat certain things. However, the overall story and the main characters more than make up for that.
I cannot wait to read the second one.

While I was hoping for more danmei fun this was not nearly as engaging as Heaven Official's Blessing.
The characters are a bit too on-the-nose trope-ish and seem very one-note so far. Wei Wuxian reminds me of a very stereotypical "frat boy" type who loves to tease - to the point of bullying - and never takes anything seriously when he should. While I understand the carefree kind of character he's meant to be, the "teasing" (aka bullying) aspect to his personality rubs me the wrong way and I'm not really a fan of him and Lan Zhan being friends or closer. Maybe this will get better in the next few volumes but for now I'm not overly impressed. It's clear that MXTX's writing and character creation was a lot better in Heaven Official's Blessing.
