I thoroughly enjoyed this sequel to the first book and I look forward to what else Ferius does in the next.

I didn’t expect some of twists and turns which I like. As much as the speed in which Ferius learns sign language to communicate with Binta was unbelievable, the story was intriguing and was a fresh idea to countless fantasy stories I’ve read.

The relationships are not fleshed out enough though and moved through too quickly for the depth it was supposed to be. Some parts were also a little wordy and carried on far too many pages.

Oh my Goddddddddddd I am so happy this trilogy exists!

This didn't give me the roller coaster of emotions that Way of the Argosi did, but finding out exactly why Ferius actually is the way she is (and it being more than just imitating Durral/lingering trauma) was WILD, no pun intended. Also, I loooooooved all of the background we got about Rosie! Sebastien de Castell did a fantastic job threading the needle on the complexities involved in her and Ferius' unique relationship and why it is the way it is in the Spellslinger series.

Also, I will be damned if every time Ferius noticed/mentioned the stars it wasn't a subtle reference to Kellen, I know she spent the entirety of this book either in the desert or up in the mountains, but come on

Title: "Fall of the Argosi" by Sebastien de Castell

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Summary: Ferius Parfax has ran from her home, after doing something unspeakable. She comes across a small deaf, mute boy, who only communicates through sign language. He explains an illness took over his monastery, causing them to act like zombies. Determined to bring the boy to someplace safe, Ferius travels to a small village, not realising that no where is safe from the illness, Red Scream.

*Major Spoilers*

Review: This was more what I wanted from the first book.

I enjoyed this a lot. Ferius is still young but she is trying her best to learn the Argosi ways. She meets the Path of Thorns and Roses, and learns how the Red Scream works while doing her best to look after the boy. We see Ferius develop more into who she is in the main series; it was great to see.

I really hope more will come from this because I'm enjoying it a lot. A shame Ferius and Rosie's relationship didn't blossom more, but it was still sweet when it did. Even though Rosie betrayed her but she had her reasons.

The book discusses a lot regarding words, and speech. Understanding how each word may have different meanings. It reminded me of subliminal messages; a verse being used to drive someone mad, like a sleeper agent so to speak. We get discussions of how each path works and each talent from the Argosi works.

I enjoyed the artwork again, always a highlight with the series.

Anyone who’s read the original Spellslinger series probably goes into the Argosi trilogy with a very particular idea of who Ferius Parfax is. Only, she couldn’t be more different at the start of Way of the Argosi.

Sebastien de Castell does an amazing job in Fall of the Argosi by really starting to bridge that gap from first introduction Ferius (Spellslinger) and her much younger, much harder, Way of the Argosi counterpart.

I thought the plot line of this was really interesting and I like that way different religious beliefs were incorporated. I thought there were really powerful conversations about how easily things can be corrupted, even if that isn’t the intention. Not only does it help strengthen Ferius but it also does a great job showing the difficulty (and diversity) of the Argosi path. There’s so much to think about and unpack here it’s incredible.

I absolutely adored the original series but this trilogy is quickly becoming an all time favorite.
